{AUMC List} Sorry for the email barrage...
…but this is the first time I’ve been able to get to some things you need to be aware of all week!
Did you know that Thanksgiving is next week? How can it be that we are already this far into the year! It seems like only a week or so ago that school started back in session and now we are almost to Christmas break.
I’m not going into this free association rant for no reason, for one of the things that Thanksgiving signals for me is that Advent is here, and with the coming of Advent is also the need to decorate our facility for Christmas. This year, the first Sunday in Advent is the Sunday after Thanksgiving (November 30), which means that we will need to decorate the sanctuary on Saturday, November 29. Yes, I know that is a prime shopping day (not quite Black Friday, but almost) but we really need some help to make this place shine and look better than ever.
Of course I could handle this (Grace and I did it ourselves one year) but the fact is that there are folks in our church much more gifted than I in conveying the Christmas spirit via decorations. These are folks who see the possibilities in every detail, and who take the ordinary and turn it into the magical. You know who you are out there, and I want to ask (and beg if I have to) you to help us bring Advent and Christmas into our place.

{AUMC List} This Sunday
Friends,
For the past month, we have been talking about sharing. We talked about sharing what God has given us. We wrestled with sharing in the sacrifice. Last week, we envisioned what it would mean to share in the harvest.
I’ve been sharing with you my thoughts on this topics. This Sunday it is your turn. This Sunday I will not be preaching a sermon--you will.
You see, YOU have a lot to share with the world. This Sunday YOU get a chance to share it as we open the floor to hear your thoughts about your relationship with God, and what our church has meant to you. Herb Wallace and Bob Hatcher will be sharing their stories, but we want you to be thinking about how God is working in your life and to share that with one another.
Don’t panic. No one will twist your arm to speak if you don’t want to, but it’s time for me to shut-up and let us learn from one another about what God has given us and is calling us to share.
So I hope and pray that you will make a special effort to be present at one of our services this Sunday as we talk with one another about what God is doing in our midst.

MaryRose,could you please email this to the church?!?!?!?!!? Do you ever need a babysitter but you can't find one???? Well, I have a solution! I am a babysitter/mommy's helper! I have expierience, and references, and pictures. I am pretty much available to baby/mommy sit most afternoons and evenings.Because I have school tha day (maybe!) I charge 3 dollars an hour. {AUMC List} Fw: Baby Shower For Cindy and Rayne!!!
Hello everyone! I have a friend here in Arizona who is being sweet enough to throw a baby shower for us! I really didnt think that would happen so I am super excited! I do not have everyone's addresses to give to her, so I promised I would send out emails to those who are not local and I dont have addresses for, just in case!
The local turnout will be small, since I dont know too many people here yet, but we planned it while Mom would be in town for the holidays. I am certain most people won't venture all of the way out here for a visit, but I just wanted to let you know you are missed and loved! Here is the info:

We have already gotten most of the big stuff and just need a few creature comforts as well as necessities. {AUMC List} Volunteers for 61st Ave Last Minute Toy Store
Friends,
Every year around this time I will have individuals and classes ask about identifying persons and families that they can help for Christmas. While there is a certain benefit in that, the fact is that our ability to screen these families for abuse is minimal, and I hear stories regularly of persons who take advantage of the generosity of good church people.
With that in mind, I want to suggest that this year you work instead to support the Sixty First Avenue UMC Last Minute Toy Store. I am proud to have worked with this ministry in the past (and our youth have volunteered several times) and have been impressed by their operation. They are diligent about working with local agencies (both the Salvation Army and Metro Social Services) to identify those who truly have need and to guard against abuse. Every year over 1,300 families are served.
This is an excellent project for classes or families to participate in, and I want to commend it to you.

Sixty First Ave Last Minute Toy Store Seeking Volunteers
In the midst of very hard economic times Sixty-First Avenue United Methodist Church in West Nashville will once again host the "Last Minute" Toy Store in the days just before Christmas. This year the Last Minute Toy Store will run from Thursday, Dec. 18 through Sunday, Dec. 21. Davidson County parents who are struggling to provide holiday gifts for their children and have not received toys from other sources can come to the Toy Store to select free, new, unwrapped toys for their children, ages newborn to 18.
This is a cooperative effort with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's "Toys for Tots" program which provides approximately two-thirds of the toys distributed. The rest come from donations of toys, teen gifts, or money given directly to Sixty-First Avenue UMC for this purpose.
In 2007 approximately 16,000 toys/teen gifts were distributed to 3,591 children and youth from 1,380 families.
Persons who would like to help out can do so in a number of ways:
1. By donating new unwrapped toys or money to buy toys. Toys or teen gifts can be brought to the church at 6018 New York Avenue in West Nashville. Checks can be made out to Sixty-First Avenue UMC and sent to 6018 New York Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209. There is always a special need for gifts for teens who often get overlooked during toy drives. Last year close to a thousand teens received gifts through the Toy Store.
2. By volunteering before, during, and after the Toy Store. Rev. Paul Slentz, Pastor of Sixty-First Avenue United Methodist Church, reports that about ninety volunteers are needed each day. Over the last few years over twenty churches in the Tennessee Conference and a dozen schools made donations to the project or sent volunteers.

Friends,
Several folks mentioned last night that they thought their pork chops weren’t completely done through, and this morning at least two people have come down with stomach ailments. While not everyone has gotten sick, we certainly want to make all aware of the possibility of food poisoning, and encourage you to call your physician if you begin to experience any problems.
If you are experiencing any stomach related illness today that you think is connected to last night’s meal, we would certainly appreciate you letting us know.

{AUMC List} Update: Elizabeth Lane
Friends,
I found out tonight that Elizabeth Lane has been moved to the Green Hills Health & Rehab Center, located at 3939 Hillsboro Circle (just off Abbot Martin Rd) in Green Hills. While the hope was that she would be transferred to Bethany, there were no beds available, and the hospital was forced to make other arrangements.
Elizabeth is in room 325, but does not currently have a phone in her room. There are no restrictions on visiting hours, and I encourage all who are able to drop by.
Please keep Elizabeth in your prayers as decisions will have to be made soon regarding her long term status.

{AUMC List} Ever Mae Hutcherson Fraser
Dear Everyone,
Just wanted to give you an update on my newest neice. Ever Mae Fraser was born on November 7 to proud parents Erica and Josh. They believe she was about six weeks early. She is having trouble breathing , so they transfered her to the nicu a few hours after she was born. She was just over 6 pounds. She did not need a ventilator, but does require oxygen. They told my sister, Erica that it could be up to three weeks for her in the nicu. She is making small baby steps everyday. We are asking for all the prayers we can get. I have included a cute picture of her. She is adorable and already a fighter. She has pulled her GI tube out and tries constantly to take her oxygen hood off. She is keeping the breast milk down, which they say is the best thing for her.
Pray for our tiny miracle.
